Who is Hwabaraty?
Hwabaraty is an award-winning musician, cultural ambassador, and social activist from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. His music blends modern sounds with traditional Southern African elements, creating a unique fusion of heritage and contemporary rhythms. Known for his dynamic performances, Hwabaraty has graced major international stages, including WOMAD (World of Music, Arts, and Dance), ISintuFest in the United Kingdom, and the London International Fringe Festival in Canada. He has performed alongside notable artists like Nobuntu and Jeys Marabini and made a memorable appearance at the 2021 Intwasa Arts Festival.
With five albums to his name, including collaborations with artists like Mnqobi Yazo, Afrosoul, and Asaph, Hwabaraty's music continues to inspire and uplift. His latest album, Jelimana, draws from his work with The Hothaus Zimbabwe, an organization creatively rebranding Africa by empowering children living on the streets. Through Jelimana, Hwabaraty seeks to ignite a spiritual awakening and promote healing through the power of music, dance, and storytelling.
Beyond his music, Hwabaraty is a passionate advocate for social change. As the Swedish Embassy in Zimbabwe’s Ambassador for the Love Shouldn’t Hurt campaign, he has championed gender equality and spoken out against gender-based violence. His commitment to using his platform for positive change has made him a respected voice in the fight for social justice.
Hwabaraty's experiences conducting community theatre workshops in Namibia and Mozambique have shaped his vision of using music, dance, and theatre as tools for storytelling and empowerment. His performances aim to connect people with their history, while also encouraging reflection on the present and hope for the future. His melodies, rich in spiritual depth, awaken souls and anchor audiences in truth.
